Web Service Description Group
Minutes, FTF meeting 22-24 Sept 2003
Palo Alto, hosted by SAP.

-------------------------------------------------------
Summary
-------------------------------------------------------

Monday:

  Removing message:
    RESOLVED: Issues 27, 39, 40, 45, 48, 63 are closed.
RESOLVED: Consensus to add attribute named style -- no default
ACTION: Sanjiva to clarify wording on op style to say that use of
uri
is assertion on part of author and if the schema doesn't
match
            then it is an error.
Consensus that RPC style rules have already been accepted.
RESOLVED: Add another RPC style rule: "If the first param in the
result
message is an out-only then it is the return, otherwise
there
              is no return value.
RESOLVED: Restrict these rules to XML Schema only and model as a
              sequence.
RESOLVED: Allow nillable and min/max occurs for each element.

  Binding Enhancements:
RESOLVED: Insufficient support for proposal to move @protocol from
              <soap:binding> to <soap:address>.
    Deferred Issue #84.

  Media Type handling in MTOM:
Resolved: Draft a spec for a schema annotation (attribute) to attach
to
restrictions of binary data types indicating what the
media
type is. Work with XML Schema and XML Protocol WGs to
publish
              (as a note?).
ACTION: potential editors to apply to Chair.

  Patterns:
    RESOLVED: Keep 6 patterns:
              - In-Out and In-only fully supported.
              - Out-In and Out-only will be marked as not supported by
                bindings in this spec.
              - In-Multi-Out and Out-Multi-In will be marked as "at
risk"
                pending a credible proof-of-concept binding.
ACTION (?): Amy to present credible proof-of-concept bindings for
multis
                at next FTF.

Tuesday:

  WSDL 1.2 vs. 2.0:
Consensus to rename WSDL 1.2 to WSDL 2.0.
ACTION: Philippe to recommend the wsdl 2.0 name to Director.

  Endpoint References:
Some had concern that Arthur's/Umit's proposal was too complex.
ACTION: Roberto, Glen: provide a counterproposal to the current
            proposal.
RESOLVED: Accepted three new requirements, R134, R135, R136.

  Attributes:
RESOLVED: To accept (at least) defining two operation styles (get
& set), analogous to RPC, that (if used) asserts that
elements of the operation conform to particular
conventions.
ACTION: ATF to describe for these style uri for attributes.
ACTION: Core editors to include those rules in the draft.

Wednesday:

  Property & Feature syntax:
ACTION: Glen to clarify when to use the open content model and
when to use the properties/features in the primer.
Tabled syntax change proposal pending Glen's AI.
ACTION: Jonathan to look at 2003May/0020.html QoS advertising
proposal
to see if it relates to p&f.

  WSDL Component Designators:
RESOLVED: Move from appendix to RDF mapping so we don't have pub
              obstacles while TAG deliberates.

Pattern inference (optional @pattern, optional @messageReference):
Tabled decision on optional @pattern to future telcon.
Tabled decision on optional @messageReference to a future telcon.

  Optional operation/@name
Tabled decision to a future telcon.
