are exploring Semantic Web technologies in different application areas: knowledge management (e.g. human resource competence ontologies, virtual organizations, cooperation between different departments [1] usnig multiple ontologies), E-Learning [2], and knowledge and community portals [3]. Requirements for a web ontology language from our point of view are: - representation of a lexical layer within ontologies (also for instances) - modularization principles (enforcing interoperability by reuse) - scalability - representation of mapping rules between different ontologies - support different complexity layers concerning expressive capabilities Best, Alexander Maedche Footnotes: [1] http://www.ontologging.com [2] http://edutella.jxta.org [3] http://www.ontoweb.org -- Alexander Maedche FZI Research Center for Information Technologies at the University of Karlsruhe, Research Group WIM, 76131 Karlsruhe, Germany Tel.: +49-(0)721-9654-802 , Fax.: +49-(0)721-9654-803 e-mail: maedche@fzi.de www: http://www.fzi.de/wim/Received on Thursday, 29 November 2001 12:11:01 GMT
