Link checker and <SPAN>

Hi

Just a comment really, it may be me not writing code properly but...

With the link checker links contained in <span> check as broken

Examples:
<span class="splognessabounds"><a href="../valid/address.htm">valid 
file address</a></span>

and

<a href="../valid/address.htm">valid <span 
class="splognessabounds">file</span> address</a>

Any thoughts?
