adding microdata to xhtml doctype

I have searched both on Google and in W3C in an effort to implement/add
microdata to my websites www.rustdepot.com and www.rustremoverproducts.com .
The following is the Doctype info from the index page of the
www.rustdepot.com <http://www.rustdepot.com/> site.

<!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Transitional//EN"
<html xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml" dir="ltr"
xmlns:v="urn:schemas-microsoft-com:vml"
xmlns:o="urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office">

I am not well versed in the details of various doctypes and have tried
numerous methods, but to no avail. When I try to validate, I receive a
'Fatal Error'

>From what I understand, I believe the addition of microdata may be essential
in the near future and its importance may grow as part of Google's algorithm
for search results and website rank. I would also be curious to know if
there will be any significance placed on microdata by Bing's search engine.

I would greatly appreciate any feedback you may have.
