Every time you write xlink:href in SVG, you use it, typically for elements
like a, image, use, animate, animateTransform, animateMotion, set,
in SVG tiny 1.2 animation, audio, video, several more.

Francis says:
That's my problem, I would rather use href (src). As a typical author,
I can see no advantage to me in carrying the xlink:href clutter in
thousands of calls. Hence, an irritant ;)

I did do some searching on how XLink is applied in other technologies.
The consensus indicates that XLink is not being applied very much.

I'm assuming the attribute will remain, and hopeful the href/src
option will be made available.

Who knows, SVG with its XML data linkages, may itself, give rebirth to XLink.

Thanks for taking the time in responding to my comments,
