howto serve svgz files on OS X Leopard

save .htaccess file in /Library/WebServer/Documents with contents:

AddType image/svg+xml svg svgz
AddEncoding x-gzip .gz .tgz .svgz .svg.gz

"Out of the box, the Apache Web server that comes with OS X does not  
take any notice of .htaccess files"
follow these instructions: http://www.clagnut.com/blog/350/
but note that in Leopard use /private/etc/apache2/httpd.conf

success can currently be tested with the W3C validator, Mozilla or  
Safari
