New property for border-collapse?

Hi all,

When I played around with tables last time, I thought it would be
useful to have a new property for border-collapse, e.g. «hide», which
would hide a border completely if they touch each other. This way one
could draw patterns in tables, for better highlighting, like here:

Just an idea, and I don't know whether it is possible to do that in an
easy way.
