I think that Microsoft has made the right choice from the authors point of
view.
Conditional comments and all related constructs, although they may seem
'evil', are
sometimes the only way for authors to "fix" rendering incosistencies, which
may occur also in UA
that are universally regarded as the good party fighting against the evil
party.
