Browser consistency is for the benefit of authors.  I would say that 
copy and paste is for the benefit of readers, so it is valid for 
browsers to compete in this area.

In fact, as hinted earlier, there is an increasing trend for authors to 
try and frustrate copying, although it generally only works with 
scripting enabled.
