When the "decorated" text contains superscripts, and especially when it
contains subscripts. The underlining is disturbingly broken.
Compare the appearance of
<span style="text-decoration:underline">H<sub>2</sub>O</span>
with the effect you get when the style sheet is
border-bottom: solid 1px
