setting table width with style sheets

I tried setting the width of a table by giving it a class and setting the
"width" value in that class definition.  It works in IE, but Netscape doesn't
seem to support this yet.  Does anyone know of a way around this using style
sheets, or is it better to leave the width in the table tag?
