The ".smi" extension on the Mac is claimed by two different 
applications: the RealPlayer (which interprets it as a SMIL document, 
obviously), and the Disk Utility (which uses it for old MacOS9 Self 
Mounting Image files).

Select a .smi file, "Get Info", set "Open With:" to the Real Player, 
and press the "Change All" button.
