Something like:-

   :date rdfs:domain [ daml:unionOf (:Document :Event) ] .

Perhaps? Conjunctive domains and ranges are in my experience the most
common use, and since DAML lets you create new classes as unions of
existing classes, there is no reason to oppose this.
