Latex template for research reports?

We are considering using LaTex for authoring SIMILE documents, and need a suitable LaTex template.

If you have one that has worked well in the past that would be suitable for the kinds of documents SIMILE is producing / will produce, I would appreciate it if you would reply with a reference to it.
