I concur with Alan Cox. The W3C has been a center of intellectual activity and research precisely because of its openness and RF policy. If the W3C is now pursuing a policy that will penalize the individual developers, the free software community, and the small companies that have always been behind it, then these communities will look to another organization for the creation of standards.
