Patenting Standards

Patenting standards is a lousy idea. The web is a
public communications medium. As such, it provides a
forum in which every person can publish his/her views
and communicate with like minded people world-wide.

Patenting vital standards allows the patent holders to
raise the price of using the web, until it is beyond
the reach of most people who would otherwise like to
publish there.

This is precisely what the corporations behind this
proposal want. Keep normal people from publishing
their thoughts and comments. Allow only corporate
propaganda.

It is up to you to keep the underlying standards of
the internet beyond the reach of corporate and
government power brokers!
