Dear all, It is hard to say anything on this topic that has already been put far more succinctly and forcefully than I ever could, but I feel that my voice must join the protest against this proposal. Implementation of this would allow the Web to become a proprietary format, controlled by the large companies who can afford to licence the appropriate standards. The Web was built on open standards and government money, and the openness for which W3C has hitherto sought has been a heartening continuation of that open tradition. Please do not break with this condition - we need an open set of standards, and you are the body capable of keeping it so. Don't let us down!
