Dear Concerned, I believe that in light of the current tragedy (and the diverted attention of the world), the W3 should be ashamed of itself for not lengthening the window for public comment and debate on the efforts of some to allow embedding of patents into W3 "standards". I believe allowing patented technology to become W3 standards will lead to FURTHER abuses of the patent system which in turn will do more to silence the free speech of citizens all over the world. I've been a part of the internet since before Microsoft "discovered" it. I do not want to be a part of the future where history shows they "reinvented" it. An examination of this mail header will show I am sending this from my free-OS-of-choice, Linux. In a patent constrained web of the future, I fear I will not have that choice. Sincerely, Scott Prive
