You remember RAMBUS? Attempt to insert patent-based proprietary leverage into the commodity memory standard? Remember Unisys bringing up a previously unknown patent on GIF? (It's done wonders for them from a marketing perspective, hasn't it?) Remember the bypassing of the various encryption patents, and the rise of alternatives like DSA and blowfish? You're about to throw away the geek community's respect for the W3C. And we're the people who write software. That's about as stupid as Johnson and Johnson universally alienating physicians. I'm a full time programmer, and I will not only boycott anything as stupid as the GIF patent, but I will work dilligently to implement and improve any alternative to your patented technologies. Don't do this. It's suicidally stupid. We will bypass you. We will surpass you. Will will make fun of you. And eventually, we will completely ignore you. Rob
