The web has been a great place for free spirits and rebels alike to express their views and take actions in many ways. People share ideas, documents, programs and property on the web in ways and to an extent impossible before the existence of the web. Now a few huge businesses are trying to control (smother) all this with new "patented" standards. Where will that leave the rest of us? I saw nothing in the media regarding this until Dan Gillmor's column appeared in the San Jose Mercury News, Sunday, Oct. 9th. Donald Kleyensteuber
