Idiot notion to include patented technology in web standards

Very simply put, proprietary standards are available to less than the total development community, this sponsors and encourages fragmentation as each group competes to get its standard "first" (witness the Microsoft variant of Javascript). Once those standards are indeed, "first", then there is no motivation for the owning company to share, forcing consumers and other developers to put up with what ever shoddy software the standard owner decides to put out in the world.
In addition, there is nothing driving propriety groups to cooperate nor foster interoperability between standards. In short, the entire web will fall apart into a myriad of sub-webs, the MS web, the SUN web, etc. Intolerable, expensive, inefficient, useless and counter to the current trend in every respect.
If you wish to stay in business, DON'T allow this silliness to take place.
