Outrage is my response to the news I have heard that you, the W3C, are attempting to patent tools that give designers the ability to provide higher quality web sites to all Internet users. It is really hard for me to understand how this could even be legal. How can an organization that makes the standards also charge people to follow those standards? This is insanity. I have a hard enough time trying to make money as it is. If I have to start paying royalties to write a web page, I could not operate. The web was developed as an open medium to share information. What you are trying to do is contradictory to the Internet itself. If the goal of the W3C is to make money perhaps you should allow another community to set the standards and you should become a private business. What you are attempting to do with your authoritive position is wrong!
