Gentlemen: It is my belief that patents should be restricted to physical hardware. Therefore any support given to software patents is wrong in that it supports a patent that should never have been granted. Further, all software patents should be immediately rescinded and returned to the originators for re submission as a copyright. I fully realize that the W3C has nothing to do with issuing patents or copyrights. The problem that W3C has initiated is the mixing of royalty generation items with "open" standards which by the very idea of "open" must not be related to revenue generation. Please reconsider and then terminate any proposal that would legitimize the collection of royalties from a "standard" that is supposedly "open". This is not really difficult gentlemen. If a royalty can be demanded then it is NOT an "open standard". Charles J. Lingo clingo@i-55.com
