RAND Policy

This policy attacks the very foundation that the
internet was built on. How can you patent a protocol
or a standard. Its insane! Thats like putting a patent
on the way workers pick fruit (just an example). Your
indidual software, sure, but the basic outlines of its
functionality should not be surrounded by hideous
royalty fees and patents. The only reason that
companies such as Microsoft are behind this policy is
because they care about one thing: the bottom line.
Whether or not the vast community that is the internet
is destroyed because of this _COMMERCIALISATION_ of
its foundation is not a problem for them, so long as
they get rich ripping people off for technology that
should be free. The internet is a place for the
people, leave it alone. If this policy is put in place
then the chance of any decent new technology erupting
onto the net will dwindle away to nothing.
