Standards and non free Patents are not compatible. A standard should be considered equal to traffic rules. Having to either endure accidents when driving in the left side of the road, or paying royalties in order to be allowed to drive in the right side, is simply not the way to make standards. Until now, using W3C standards have been an insurance against IP trouble for a lot of people, and has also kept the threshold for entry in this area low enough to ensure anybody their fair chance. I personally, will have to dicourage use of W3C standards, and find or help build an other standards organisation, should this enter active use. Niels Thomsen
