actually I'm rather sympathetic to that in a browser setting.  In TeX or
in Word, (or in general typesetting mathematics to paper) the author
knows the page size and can be expected to take more manual control over
such things when necessary, but in a browser you have to leave more
things up to the browser to take decisions based on the reader's viewing
environment.

The operator dictionary is only a suggestion in any case, so you are
always free as implementor to do what you think best here, but we have a
working group phone conference tomorrow and no doubt this will get on
the agenda, as to what exactly chapter 3 and the operator dictionary
should say.... thanks
