XHTML Modularization and xml:space="preserve"

The xhtml modularization declares  xml:space="preseve" (fixed value in DTD) on certain elements (pre, script, style).

This seems unnecessary as all elements in XHTML preserves spaces (xml:space="default" in XHTML is to preseve the spaces)
