Thank you for clarifying that you would like your concerns [1] about the Chairs Decision on ISSUE-30 [2] to be treated as a Formal Objection.

As per the W3C Process [3]:

> A record of each Formal Objection MUST be publicly available.

the HTML WG Chairs have recorded your formal objection on a new public page at:

http://dev.w3.org/html5/status/formal-objection-status.html

You should note that we have included a list of Bugzilla bugs that we believe have been impacted by the ISSUE-30 decision. Additions to this list are of course welcome.

We do not plan to take any action on your formal objection at this time due to:

1) the active and potentially productive discussion going on,

2) the multiple indications that additional Formal Objections might be forthcoming, and

3) the indication that there may be new information to consider.

If your Formal Objection is still outstanding when we do a Call for Review for the HTML5 specification(s) then it will be identified as required by the W3C Process [3]:

> A Call for Review (of a document) to the Advisory Committee MUST identify any Formal Objections.

HTML WG Chairs

Subject: Formal Objection to ISSUE-30 (Was: Letter to the Team Contact - ISSUE-30.)

Dear Co-Chairs and Team Contact,

I would like you to consider my appeal not as an appeal, but as a

Formal Objection. The reason for this is that I had a talk with Mike

today, and the conversation we had convinced me that what I have

formulated as an appeal, content-wise can be considered a Formal

Objection, and that a Formal Objection is the right way forward. Of

course, my Formal Objection - as I will refer to it as from now - is

critical about the co-chairs and also questions how thoroughly they

have evaluated the issue. However the aim of my text was not

principally to question the co-chairs, but to question the Decision,

including the quality of the Decision, in order to provide some

arguments that justifies that the conclusions of the Decision can and

should be reevaluated.

The compiled Formal Objection (formerly "Appeeal") has been updated to

reflect that it is now, in fact, a Formal Objection (except for that,

it is - at least for now - the same text as before). The document was

also moved from its old address (which included the word 'appeal') to

the following, new address:

http://www.malform.no/messages/issue-30.html

I thus formally request that the Co-Chairs record my Formal Objection

together with their own Decision, in order to inform the group and the

public about it.

PS: I hope that Decisions, in the future, will refer a more objective

and accurate description of the Appeal instrument and the Formal

Objection instrument.

With regards,

Leif Halvard Silli
