The 22,122,338 byte binary I mentioned in my previous message was the
latest CVS code at the time with the libraries from a pre-final 9.52
snapshot tarball.  This size problem now seems to resolved:

Today I used the libraries of the 9.52 release tarball
amaya-fullsrc-9.52.tgz (30,132,406 bytes, 18-Oct-2006 13:39)
with the CVS code from a few hours ago and compiled it with:

  ../configure --with-wx
  make

The binary was 12,076,407 bytes, which is very close to the 12,058,636
bytes of the binary I get using the Amaya directory which comes with the
tarball.
