Re: keyboard accessible video player

Hi,

We have full keyboard access on the BBC Live TV Channels accessed via
iPlayer (e.g. http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/tv/bbc_one_london/watchlive).
There are a couple of issues worth noting:

* There is labelling for screen readers throughout the player so that you
can access all functionality i.e. Play/Pause, Mute, Volume, Forward/Rewind,
Jump to the start of a programme and Watch live.
* Aside from using the TAB and ARROW keys to navigate we have added
alternative means to access some functionality using keyboard shortcuts
however depending on the screen reader and browser combination there are
some inconsistencies.
* Full screen is less stable due to Adobe restrictions.
* Instructions can be found under the heading ŒWatching Live TV¹ here:
http://iplayerhelp.external.bbc.co.uk/help/access_iplayer/readers
* This is only available within the UK I¹m afraid (a BBC licensing issue
http://iplayerhelp.external.bbc.co.uk/help/outside_the_uk/outsideuk)

All feedback welcome, this is the proverbial work in progress.

Henny
