Graphical search engine can extract information from illustrations in research papers

This seems like a potentially important advance as it would enable the 
extraction of data from graphical charts. The article in the 21 
September issue of New Scientist magazine doesn't mention the potential 
benefit to blind or low vision readers. It's available online [1] 
(summary for non-subscribers).
