Yes, I know the options, I don't know though that it is possible to  
deliver them.  It might not be posskible for the user agent to style  
the text input area or provide a blinking cursor.

I agree, replace untill with something else not throw it away.  I'm  
not saying don't do the new things, just don't throw away that which  
works where the new ones do not.

The normal way: a blinking caret appears. Styling in the user agent  
may also completely invert the input's colors, add a thicker (or  
additional dotted) border, etc.

Because instead of "until user agents" it should, if anything, say  
"unless the user agents you're targetting don't support it".

You yourself said that this issue keeps coming up even with new user  
agents. By that reasonining, the "until user agents" would never be  
fulfilled, and this would detract from progress, no?
