Let's sum up and move on:

1)  Yes, Being SGML is more important than being convenient.
2)  Therefore, no to all the goodies we really want like
    case sensitivity and all numeric, and starting numeric,
    UNLESS ISO 8879 can do so too.
3)  Yes, let's bug WG8 on what would be useful for IDs.
