This is an interesting approach.  I've felt for a while that we are having 
trouble because we are overloading both syntax and semantics onto too few 
primitives in the graph.

This is an example of an approach which tries to separate out the syntactic 
issues.

Patrick doesn't seem that much of a fan.  What do other folks think?
