URI Template Status?

Hi all,

As I'm unfamiliar with processes regarding the IETF, may I ask the status on
URI Templates?  Is the next step for it to become an RFC?  What is required
for it to become a "recommendation" or a "standard", and when is that
expected (assuming it is expected?) 

Thanks for helping a newbie understand the process.
