Google has IP, would be happy to let it become royalty free if we proceed, and would love to see this go forward.

We have been discussing the potential to provide an open source reference implementation. Internal discussion has trended toward the notion of extending harfbuzz as part of our Faster Horse project to build a fast native subsetter (https://goo.gl/Qy3Eqc).

As much as I’d like us to get moving on the potential new work item we discussed at the last F2F meeting, I think it would be in our collective best interests to do so _after_ we have a clear picture of the IP landscape on the subject of font streaming. I am hoping that once (hopefully soon) we have positions statements from all WG members it would make our discussions (and the process of drafting / approval of a new WG charter) a lot more productive - until then I suggest that we should postpone the calls.

I did have internal discussions with Monotype management and am happy to reiterate our desire to contribute to this future work, and hope that other members of the WG would soon be able to make their positions known.
