I hate to be the one to do it, but you might want to reconsider the
Batik disadvantage "Java is typically slow."

In my performance tests [1], the standalone Batik browser was
no slower than either FireFox or Opera. In fact, it was faster in some
tests.

Granted, this is not the same as a plugin. But, I find it hard to
reconcile the comment about Java being slow with my measurements.
