Heads-up: work in progress on a W3C Immersive Web Working Group Charter

Hello Spatial Data on the Web Interest Group,

Scott reminded me that the Immersive Web Community Group, which is currently incubating the WebXR Device API [1] is exploring transitioning to a Working Group (see announcement at [2]) and to that end is preparing a Working Group Charter [3].

The scope of the would-be Working Group is mostly around exposing XR (VR/AR) devices to Web applications along with useful and timely sensor data, and allowing Web applications to render content on these devices.

The scope is at least partially relevant to the Spatial Data on the Web Interest Group because the definition of APIs to "receive updated information about the device's position and orientation over time" is in scope.

That said, I believe formats to model the device's environment (where CityJSON could perhaps be useful) would be out of scope of the working group.

People here may want to provide feedback on the scope of the working group directly on the relevant GitHub repo [4], or in reply to this email if you feel the SDW IG should discuss some points first.

Thanks,
Francois.
