Re: BP 11 - 'convenience APIs'

Clemens-

one thing to tee up for this afternoon's discussion is whether there's
anything specific we should say in BP11 about Search - especially if we
remove BP12.

For BP12, I think that this could easily be incorporated into BP11; but
note that Josh said that he would provide advice about what functions
should be included to support _spatial_ search.

Josh- any comment?

BTW, I recall that the original suggestion for what became BP12 originated
from Bill. He identified where users don't often know the exact name of URI
of the spatial thing they're looking for, so offering a search operation is
vital, e.g. textual search on name to return list of identifiers,
opensearch geo [and temporal] query patterns, and (if you're using RDF
DataCube) what else is listed in the same dimension. See Swirrl's
http://statistics.gov.scot/#explore_home and
http://statistics.gov.scot/search by way of examples.

Just to say that Clemen's PR [1] has been merged into the Editor's Draft

Thanks Clemens -

If you would like we could swap discussion of BPs 11, 12 and 13 into the
"main" part of this afternoon's agenda in place of the discussion about
sitemaps; Lars has offered regrets so we wouldn't get his input on that
discussion.

Dear all,

in the last BP telecon (https://www.w3.org/2017/02/15-sdwbp-minutes) I took
the action to work on the best practice related to the convenience APIs to
access spatial data (BP 11). As we have our next BP call today, I want to
provide an update on the status.

An updated version is now in this pull request (many thanks to Jeremy for
his input): https://github.com/w3c/sdw/pull/587. Only the introduction to
section 12.6 and BP 11 have been changed (plus the bibliography).

The main change has been to consolidate this BP with the changes that
occurred in DWBP before it was finalised and focus on the specific aspects
that relate to spatial data and SDIs.

The current WD has some additional ideas for examples, but I have removed
them when they were using generalized APIs, not specific to spatial data or
unclear to me. If anyone has text for more examples, this would be good.

Bart: You should check, if your input is represented properly or if you
would like to propose any amendments.

I think that we could remove BPs 12 and 13 as they are essentially covered
by the DWBP best practices and BP 11 (maybe some of the current text in the
two BPs could be moved to BP 11), but it would be good to have examples
that relate to these BPs in BP 11.

Best regards,
Clemens
