Summary: [XQ1.1] Editorial: Reason why XQuery is not a pure
                    functional language
Product: XPath / XQuery / XSLT
           Version: Member-only Editors Drafts
          Platform: PC
        OS/Version: Windows NT
            Status: NEW
          Severity: normal
          Priority: P2
         Component: XQuery 1.1
        AssignedTo: jonathan.robie@redhat.com
        ReportedBy: oliver@cbcl.co.uk
         QAContact: public-qt-comments@w3.org

Section 2 contains the text:

(However, unlike a pure functional language, it does not allow variable
substitution if the variable declaration contains construction of new nodes.)

Now we have non-deterministic functions XQuery is definitely not a pure
functional language, and this should be mentioned here.
