[Speaking on behalf of reviewers from IBM, not just personally.] Section 2.1.1 The definition of Statically known collections states, "If the argument to fn:collection is not a string literal that is present in statically-known collections, then the static type of fn:collection is node()?." The static type in this case should be "node()*" rather than "node()?".
