Sure. I don't expect most people to understand how to do this, though.

Changing the serialization will break old clients that aren't built
around the dynamic nature of JSON-LD, but instead based on the plain
JSON. While these clients in many ways get what they deserve, they are
what I as an API provider have to cater to. If Hydra can make it
easier to cater to these naïve clients without much effort and
deviations from the default, it would be great.

Sure. I agree this isn't the most important problem to tackle. A
prioritized list (from your perspective) would be great to see. :-)
