[Bug 9966] New: Include a history section. Say that this spec replaces Appendix C and related docs

http://www.w3.org/Bugs/Public/show_bug.cgi?id=9966

Summary: Include a history section. Say that this spec replaces
                    Appendix C and related docs
           Product: HTML WG
           Version: unspecified
          Platform: All
               URL: http://dev.w3.org/html5/html-xhtml-author-guide/html-x
                    html-authoring-guide.html
        OS/Version: All
            Status: NEW
          Severity: normal
          Priority: P2
Component: HTML/XHTML Compatibility Authoring Guide (ed: Eliot
                    Graff)
        AssignedTo: eliotgra@microsoft.com
        ReportedBy: xn--mlform-iua@xn--mlform-iua.no
         QAContact: public-html-bugzilla@w3.org
                CC: mike@w3.org, public-html@w3.org,
                    xn--mlform-iua@xn--mlform-iua.no,
                    eliotgra@microsoft.com

I note that some part of the spec seems to take XHTML 1.0 Appendix C as a
starting point. For example, the advice in Appendix C to avoid multiple space
characteres inside attributes – seems to have been lifted out of Appendix C
directly by you. There does, however, not seemsto be not basis for that
requirement.

So, I suggest that just like there is a document which documetns the
differences betwen HTML4 and HTML5, there should be a section of the polyglot
spec which documents the history of the polyglot spect, starting with Appendix
C and possible some other documents.

I would like to propose a text for this, unless you object. Though, if you
agree, feel free to start.

The history part should have two parts: 1) Document the roots of the Polyglot
spec - link it back to Appendix C. 2) Describe some difference betwen Appendix
C and the polyglot spec.
