thread on image map alt text

we are discussing appropriate alt text for image map <img>

input from the task force would be appreciated

currently some people are arguing that the alt in the example in the spec:
http://www.w3.org/html/wg/drafts/html/master/embedded-content-0.html#image-maps-0

is inappropriate and the <img> in question should not have an alt or an
empty alt

please respond on the html wg thread so as not to splinter the discussion
