Re: eGov Meeting in Santa Clara 31-Oct/1-Nov

1) An entry for FTZ 018 (San Jose Int'l Airport's Foreign Trade Zone) added.  This is crucial to local trade.  As a practical matter, if you are coming from overseas, you might want to look into an "ATA Carnet" to get your laptop or other personal electronics through US Customs[1].  No guarantees with those folks, though.

2) Links to Water Quality Monitoring Locations in Santa Clara County and a data service were added.

3) The Weather will be updated daily, but the zip file contains the information a developer needs to have to do this.  Search engines don't know this (sigh), so if links do not work it is because I said "Please download the zip file from the index page."

Although it looks very much like I won't be able to make the F2F, I did put together a "Personal Regional Address Book"[1] for the venue (Santa Clara in Santa Clara County, California).  The site has many more files than I want to at some point clean up.  Please download the zip file from the index page.

The purpose is to showcase methods of obtaining and integrating PSI for the small developer and individual.  The method for determining a "Point of Interest" is easy, but it does not lend itself to automation ... 1) Pick a Region (the US Census provides a County list (3,400) and an internal point) 2) Go to a GIS system (National Atlas or Earth Explorer) and find the "center" of the region 3) Determine the GPS coordinates of your POI and give it a Nickname, with the understanding the metadata of the region's center point is inherited by default.

In this case, Population Data, Weather, Sunshine, LOC ID URL's, UN/LOCODES, etc. are available.  The DWML (Weather) service has an XSD Schema, and this was used for validation. It's possible to integrate other PSI services[2].  A list of Foreign Trade Zones "nearby" would be a nice addition.  Suggestions welcome, worker bees very welcome ;o)

I've put together a little poll to help Jeanne plan the meeting.  Please
take a look.
