Proposed Response:

I think this makes some sense if the device requesting the content is an
iPhone.  However, for other devices it may or may not be desirable.
Pages coded for the iPhone are probably closer in complexity to standard
desktop web pages than they are to contemporary mobile pages.
Displaying a web page designed for the iPhone on a lower end device may
be just as impossible as displaying a standard web page.  Content
transformation may be necessary for displaying an iPhone page on one of
these lower end devices.
