Folks, In preparation for our telcon tomorrow (and for the F2F discussions next week), I'd like to get a closure for these two test cases: - http://dev.w3.org/webfonts/WOFF2/spec/#conform-shouldBeShort (CTS: https://www.w3.org/Fonts/WG/wiki/TestPlan20-AuthoringTool#SHOULD_choose_shorter_encodings) Although the desired results are stated clearly, I am not sure if this can be reliably tested. We could probably come up with a test case where border conditions (e.g. value=506) encoded as 255UInt16 is present, but I am not sure if we can reliably determine (and confirm) that an encoder chooses shortest possible encodings all the time. I think this one can be ‘downgraded’ from being a conformance requirement to plain English recommendation – I don’t think it’s going to hurt anyone; - http://dev.w3.org/webfonts/WOFF2/spec/#conform-mustUseShortBase128 (CTS: https://www.w3.org/Fonts/WG/wiki/TestPlan20-AuthoringTool#mustUseShortBase128) Similar to above, this one is hard to test reliably, and I am not sure if testing this condition would be useful considering that there are also UA tests in place that require UA to reject a font if improper decoding is detected. I think this one can also be ‘downgraded’ from being a conformance requirement to plain English recommendation; Please also review the CTS plans for UA and FF since there are quite a few new test cases that will need further planning and test descriptions.
