The only two people I've seen speak against this with any realThe gist of my suggestion was that allowing an indication that the namespace name identifies something (by providing a description, one way or t'other, of what is identified), but not assuming that it necessarily identifies something, might make DC and TBL happy without contradicting the principle you're espousing and with which I agree.
conviction are Dan Connolly and Tim Berners-Lee. However they have
rather central roles at W3C and that basically is the cause of the
current difficulty, that W3C HQ don't like their own recommendations
and don't agree with the current notions of best practices for XML and
namespace use.
