I wanted to point out that Azer Bestavros' group at BU has looked at
what essentially amounts to server-side prefetching; they call it
server-side document dissemenation. You can find tech reports at BU (
I think the web link is www.cs.bu.edu but I'm not sure). There is a
lot of good work there that shows significant savings with specific
types of prefetching.
