Inkscape implements xml:space="preserve" (it is added by default to all text we create) and 'white-space' but not 'white-space-preserve'. There is a bug when the space is outside of a &lt;tspan&gt; (for historical reasons, we always create text inside a &lt;tspan&gt;).
